Pit and Fissure sealants

Sometimes brushing is not enough .Everyone has hard- to- reach spots in their mouth and brushing doesn’t always fully clean those difficult places. When that happens, the tooth is at the risk of catching decay .Use of sealants gives an extra line of defense to the tooth against tooth decay. The sealant is a plastic resin that bonds to the deep grooves on the chewing surface of the tooth.

Procedure

While sealing the tooth, the surface is first cleaned with a prophylactic paste and a rubber cup. The tooth is surface treated  and the grooves are filled .The resin is then hardened by exposing it to  a special curing light after which the tooth surface becomes smoother – and less likely to harbor  plaque .
Tooth sealants provide 100% protection from dental decay and have to be placed on a tooth devoid of any dental decay. Hence the best time to place sealants is after the tooth completely erupts in mouth .Tooth sealants for children generally last from 3-5 years. A dental sealant only provides protection when it is fully intact. So if your sealant comes off you must let us know.
